In German Lotto 6aus49, winning numbers are made available at different times during the week: on Wednesday shortly after the draw at about 18:30 and on Saturday also shortly after the Saturday draw at about 19:30. For publishing the prize payouts, the following rule of thumb applies: on the next working day, usually Monday for Saturday Lotto and Thursday for Wednesday Lotto, between 9:00 and 12:00 (the higher the jackpot, the later the payouts are published).
If the number of winners in the prize table is zero (which has been seen more often recently in the top prize class 1), the corresponding payout shows the amount that could have been won in the current draw. This amount, together with the normally expected amount for the same class, forms the jackpot for the next draw. The jackpot can thus grow to many millions of euros. New, from 01.11.2023: The Lotto jackpot is only capped at 50 million euros; in the next draw the excess money is now added to the top Class I. The number of draws without a winner in Class I no longer matters. The minimum prize in Class I remains 1 million euros. More detailed information can be found under Lotto Rules.
Please note that with the removal of the additional number (with the introduction of new lotto rules starting from the draw on Saturday, 04.05.2013), only the Superzahl (abbreviated SZ) is used to assign combinations to Prize Classes I–IX. Prize payouts are also calculated differently, and a new Prize Class 9 (2 correct with SZ) with a fixed payout was introduced; it now amounts to 6.00 euros. With another rule change from the (today’s) draw on Wednesday, 23.09.2020, the stake per line per draw was raised to 1.20 euros. In addition, there are variable processing fees, which vary considerably between the online retailers of the respective federal states.
The state lottery in Germany began with the first draw on 9 October 1955 (the winning numbers were still drawn by an orphan back then, who unfortunately drew the number “13” first). Since then, the lottery—and especially the moment of the draw—has fascinated millions. However, there are risks: Excessive play can lead to dependency and ultimately addiction. For this reason, a new State Treaty on Gambling in Germany (GlüStV) was recently adopted, according to which all advertising for public gambling on the internet is strictly regulated.
